Graduate talent is out there. But finding the right person isn’t always easy.
An application shows you what someone knows and some of what they’ve done.
But it doesn’t give you the answers to other important questions.
Who has the attitude we’re looking for? Who will put the effort in, learn quickly, work well with other people, and become a genuinely valuable employee?
Graduate FastTrack Aberdeen gives employers the chance to see emerging talent working on real business challenges over eight weeks, so you can spot attitude, potential and capability that an application can’t show.
The partnership
Powering Futures is working in partnership with Robert Gordon University to deliver Graduate FastTrack Aberdeen.
The cohort
This is for final year students, working in multi-disciplinary teams drawn from across the university:
- Engineering
- Computing
- Technology
- Business
- Finance
- Law
- Sciences
- Architecture
What’s different about this programme?
We focus on attitude
Over eight weeks participants work in teams on one of five real world challenges set by industry.
It’s a combination of live events and independent work, with participants committing to 4 hours per week.
They analyse the problem, come up with innovative solutions and present their idea back to a panel of judges.
The solution matters, but the true focus of the programme is about their attitude and how they work:
- how much effort they put in
- whether they follow through on what they say
- how they work with other people
- how willing they are to learn
- how they respond to feedback
- how they deal with setbacks
- whether they keep going when the work gets difficult
What’s the benefit to participating businesses?
You get to see people over time.
That gives you a different way to identify those who could be right for your organisation. Not just those who write the strongest application or interview well, but the people who show, over time, how they work, learn, respond and contribute.
You can then focus your attention on the people who stand out, build an early relationship with them, and encourage them towards your opportunities.
What’s the time commitment for employers?
